Craps is one of the popular casino games. But if you are a total newbie it may seem a bit complicated and overwhelming because of the number of bets that you can make. So let`s take a close look at them and make sure that there`s nothing hard about Craps.
Basic Rules
The basic rules can be described in a few simple steps.
- Pick your bet.
- Put your money on it.
- Roll the dice.
If you guessed right you`ll get the money, if you didn`t, try again. Now let`s look at the simplest bets that you can make as a Craps rookie.
First of all, you can simply pick a number and bet on it. That`s it. Or you can make a more interesting but also not very complicated bet on a ‘Pass Line/Don`t Pass’. If you place your chips on the first one, 7 or 11 will bring you the victory, if you roll 2, 3, or 12 you`ll lose, and if you get something else the round will continue. The number that you`ve rolled will become the goal for your next roll. You`ll win the round when you get it, but if before that you`ll roll a 7, you`ll lose.
The same with the Don`t Pass Bet, but here your goal will be the opposite. That is to roll a 7 before you get a number that you`ve got with your first roll of the dice.
Table layout
The most overwhelming thing for a beginner here is the table layout. It looks like a complicated chart with too many options on it, and you can`t get a grasp of what you are supposed to do next. So here we are going to break it down for you.
We`ve already discussed the basic types of bets, so now let`s look at the next major bet you can make, which is ‘Big 6/8’. Basically, if you put your chips here you have to roll 6 or 8 before you roll a 7.
- The Field. This is an area on the table where you can bet that the next roll will get you a number of points from 3 to 4 or from 9 to 11. But if you want to make a bet with a better payout you can place your chips on 2 or 12. With the Field bets, you win a double or even a triple amount of money than your initial bet. That is of course if you get lucky.
- The Place. This is also a plain and simple bet that you make if you think that you can roll 4, 5, 6, 9, or 10 before you get a 7. But if you think the opposite way, you can place your bet on a 7 right on that area of the table. In that case, you`ll get a pretty big payout.
- Come/Don`t Come Bets. These types of bets are placed on the table after the initial roll and are quite similar to the Pass/Don`t Pass bets. Only in that scenario you are betting on 7 or 11, or 2 or 3 correspondingly.
- Centre Section. Usually, this is a middle section of the table where you can place a bet on a specific pattern that you think the dice will roll into. The odds are not very high but if you do guess you can get a great payout like 10 to 1, 16 to 1, or 31 to 1.
Types of Craps
There are some other types of Craps existing, but you won`t find most of them in casinos. And not only because they are not very popular. The basic distinctions usually are that some types of bets are absent. For example, like in Crapless Craps, there are no Pass or Come bets. Or vice versa some options are added to the classical chart. Like in the Open version of Craps. But as these games give a player better odds than a regular version, casinos don`t use them. So most Craps variations are played in illegal establishments. If you find some odd version of this game online, look closely at the casino`s credentials. There is a fair chance that you`ve run into schemers.
Where to play Craps?
If you want to make sure that the game is fair there are not so many options but they sure will be enough. First of all, you can play at a land-based casino. Of course, that can be problematic as gambling zones can be far away from where you live. This leaves us with option number 2 which is an online casino. But before you type in your personal data make sure that the casino you`ve picked operates legally. Usually, all the documents or links to them can be found at the bottom of the home page. But if you have any troubles, just check out our reviews and ratings that we constantly update.
